Fabindia Neem & Tulsi Mud Pack: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Pic Courtesy: The Purplenista
Over the past few years, (or rather since the time I moved away from home and have been doing a bit of travelling) I have noticed that my skin has been changing slowly and steadily. By change, I do not mean that it is becoming better, by change I mean the change in skin type. I always had perfectly normal skin, but now my skin type has changed to Combination, that too, Combination on the oily side. Yes, its true, during summers, you can actually deep fry food with the amount of oil certain parts of my face creates.

So, what did I do to combat this. Well, tried numerous products and face packs. Among all these products, the one that has become my HG product to control oil is the Fabindia Neem and Tulsi Mud Pack. While, I believe that the best face packs are the ones that you make at home, this is one face pack that you will always find in my home. Read on to know why.

PRODUCT DETAILS:
  • Price: Rs. 225 (I remember when this would cost only Rs. 175!)

  • Shelf Life: 2 years

  • Ingredients: Purified Water, Multani mitti, Kaolin, Popain Powder, SLES, Cetostearyl, Alcohol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Glycerine, Calamine, neem Extract, Phenoxtethanol, Tulsi Oil, Imid Urea, Methyl Parabens, Propyl Parabens, Almond Oil, Neem Leaves

  • Fabindia Claims: “Neem Tulsi mud pack firms up the skin by tightening the pores. The neem extract helps diminish marks and refine texture of the skin making it look radiant. Tulsi oil soothes the skin.”

The face pack comes in round plastic tub and as you can see from the picture above, it also has a plastic cap  under the regular cap to keep the product from leaking. The tub is quite sturdy, but due its size might be an issue to carry and travel with it.

The consistency of the pack is just right for me. As you can see from the above pictures, it is not too runny, nor is it too thick. You can easily use your finger to apply the pack on to your face, or you can also use a face pack brush for application directly from the tub. The pack contains tiny bits of dried neem leaves in it. You can see a small leaf in the swatch below.

Depending on what you like you can apply a thick layer or a thin one. The Fabindia Neem and Tulsi mud pack also contains calamine that helps to soothe your skin and to tell you the truth it works wonders on irritations and acne.

Now for the review:

The Good:
  • This particular mud pack primarily aims to firm and tighten the pores, purify and brighten the skin and diminish marks. And it does absolutely all of that. The neem, tulsi and Fullers Earth (Multani Mitti) combination works wonders for combination and oily skin. Perfect for the summers.
  • I have been using this for over a year and half, and it definitely does help to control oil, tighten pores and also brighten the skin. I use it primarily during summers and I definitely see a reduction in the size of my pores. My skin looks nice, plump and healthy.
  • Nice creamy consistency that is easy to apply and also easy to wash off.
  • The pack helps to reduce acne and pimples and I have also noticed that with time it lightens acne scars on the face.
  • The pack removes tan and imparts a glow to your skin and makes you look fresh. This remains for the next four to five days.
  • Has a refreshing smell that does not linger when you take the pack off.
  • The pack dries within 10 to 15 minutes of application.
The Bad:
  • The pack tends to dry the skin a bit after you remove it. I will definitely not recommend this mud pack for dry skin beauties.
  • When you apply the pack, your skin tingles a little bit. While, it doesn't affect me at all, not many people might like the feeling.
  • Comes in a tub and is a pain to carry around.
The Ugly:
  • Contains SLES and Parabens!!!!
  • Fabindia increased the price from Rs 200 to Rs 225! It used to Rs 175 at one point, but the prices have been increasing slowly.
My Rating: /5 (minus one for the parabens and sles)

So this is my review of the Fabindia Neem and Tulsi mud pack. If the parabens and SLES do not worry you much, then I would definitely recommend you to purchase this product. As you might have seen here, I have purchased another one as a backup for the upcoming summers.

Do let me know how the pack works for you. Until then Toodles my lovelies!
